How to add products in Prestashop Ecommerce Store?

Adding products to you Ecommerce store does not only mean adding an image & some text, and then validating your content. It means knowing your product by each and every detail like price, weight, size, features, specifications, details, manufacturer, supplier and more. You should not simply add products to your Catalog without knowing exactly what you want to present to the customer. You need to have a set plan about your products and an idea about the way they should be displayed. It also means that you should know your shop’s Front Office like the back of your hand in order to properly fill in the required fields.

On the left side of the screen, you can see Catalog option. Just click on the Catalog option and follow the steps one by one to add products in your Ecommerce store.

Step 1: Choose Products from Catalog


The first page in the Catalog tab will have a list of functions. Choose Products from the list and you will be taken to the product page.

Step 2: Click on Add new Product


In the product page all the details of the existing products will be shown. Here, you can see the ID, Image, Reference, Category, Base price, Quantity and Status details. On the right top, you can see “Add new product” tab. Click on that “Add new product” tab.

Step 3: Fill the information of the product


Here, in this page you can provide all the information of the products that you are going to add. Select the type of product that you are going to add.


Step 4: Set a price value for the product.


Once you add a product to the store, the next thing you have to do is assigning a price to the product. Click on the Price option and you will be taken to the Product Price page. Here you can set the wholesale & retail price, Tax rule and unit price. Once you finish setting the price, click on “Save and Stay” option to do the further steps.


You can assign a specific price for a set of certain groups, countries and even ore category. If you do not have a specific group, you can create a group and assign price to them by clicking on “Add a new specific price”.


Here, you can set the price for different categories. You assign the price according to currency, country and groups. And you an even set price for an individual customer. Set the availability period and time, give the product price and apply the discount percentage. Save and stay on the page to set the Priority Management.


Sometime one customer can fit into price rules. Priority Management allows you to define which rule applies to the customer.

Step 5: Provide details for SEO


Click on the SEO option and fill the Meta title, Meta description and Friendly URL. You can view the sample of your advertisement in the bottom of the page. Your Meta title should not be more than 70 words and the Meta description should not exceed 140 words. Save and stay to go to the next step.

Step 6: Fill the Associations details


The next step after filling the SEO section is Associations. Here, you can select the associated category of the products, create new category, choose default category, accessories and Manufacturers.

Step 7: Provide the Shipping detais


Once you finish associating the products, move to the Shipping section. In Shipping selection provide details about package width, height, depth, weight. Also the additional shipping fee and carriers details can be provided.

Step 8: Create or modify Combinations for the product


In Combination section, you can add two or more products as a combo pack. If there are no packs available, then you can create your own combination by clicking on New Combination button.



In the New Combination section, you can choose the Attribute and the value of the product. Provide the product’s Reference, EAN 13 or JAN and UPC barcodes.

EAN 13 or JAN and UPC barcodes: These are nothing but the numbers beneath the bar codes.  These re 12 digit numbers, that are uniquely assigned to each trade product.

Assign the whole sale price, impact on price, weight and unit price. Also set the minimum quantity and availability date.


Once you finish filling all the details of the product, save and move to the Quantities section.

Step 9: Quantities


The Quantities section allows you to manage the available quantities for the sale of the products. You can specify the quantity of the product manually or choose automatic option to automatically determine the quantity based on the stock.

You can also choose an action to be performed when a product is out of stock. Finish providing all the details and move to the Images section.

Step 10: Add product Images


In the Images section, you can add the image of the product. The added image will be shown during advertising your product. You can also give a caption to the image and choose the position of the image. Upload the image and move to the Features tab.

Step 11: Assign the Features of the product


The Features section is to specify a value for each relevant feature regarding the product. You can set the values for height, width, depth and weight. You can also assign the product’s compositions, styles and properties or select among the existing pre-defined values you’ve previously added.

Step 12: Add Customization properties


You can add or modify the customization properties. Fill the file and text files and move to the Attachments section.

Step 13: Attachments


Add attachments regarding the product. Here, you should give the file name and description for the added attachment. You can also remove attachment that already exists.

Step 14: Choose the Suppliers


In the suppliers section you will be choosing the suppliers of the current product and also its combination. You can specify supplier references according to previously associated suppliers.

Once you finish assigning all the values and fill the details, your product will be added to the store and you can start selling your product.
